About Your Hair and Skin

Our range of natural plant hair dyes and botanical powders is a surefire way to not only dye your hair but also improve hair growth, scalp health and your skin.

The star ingredients in our hair dye range are undoubtedly our pure henna and indigo powders. They work together in a beautiful botanical synergy to dye and maintain your hair, perfectly balancing each other out. Because they are 100% natural, they don’t behave like harsh chemicals—they respond to one another and to your unique hair.

Below, you will discover how these ultimate natural partners work together to keep your colour balanced, why choosing pure plant power matters for your long-term health, and what makes our raw ingredients so exceptional.

Star Ingredient

Love My Hair Henna

Our pure henna (Lawsonia inermis) is organically grown, carefully harvested, dried and powdered in the famous Sojat region of Rajasthan, India. This specific area is world-renowned for its unique soil and climate, which naturally yields the finest quality henna plants on earth. It is completely pure and free from synthetic additives, certified organic, Halal and proudly endorsed by both Beauty Without Cruelty and VeganSA.

What makes this henna so effective is its exceptionally high lawsone content, which is the natural dye molecule found within the plant. Our pure henna naturally colours the hair in glorious shades of orange to red. The powder is triple-sifted so it is super fine, making it perfect for body art as well.

Our pure henna naturally strengthens your hair, promotes hair growth and balances the pH of your scalp.

Pure henna (like ours) only dyes hair in shades of orange and red and does not naturally come in different shades. Any hair dye claiming to be brown or black ‘henna’ is a chemical dye in disguise, so take care when reading product labels.

This exceptional botanical is a key ingredient in all our ready-mixed dyes. It can be used on its own for fiery tones, mixed directly with our pure indigo powder to create gorgeous custom brown shades or used in a traditional two-step dye process with indigo to achieve glossy brown to black shades.

Because our henna is completely natural, the colour of the dye powder and the resulting shade can vary gently from harvest to harvest, beautifully influenced by the sunlight and rainfall of each growing season.

Star Ingredient

Love My Hair Indigo

Our pure indigo (Indigofera tinctoria) is grown in the lush, tropical region of India called Tamil Nadu. The indigo bush is a legume, so not only does it produce the beautiful indigo dye, but it also enhances the soil in which it is grown, a win-win for natural dye and nature. It also has an interesting history as it was the original dye used to dye fabric, notably in Western culture, for jeans. It can still be used to artisanally dye fabric either in its raw form, like Love My Hair indigo, or after undergoing a fermentation process.

Our indigo has very high concentrations of the natural dye molecules of indigotin and indirubin, making it the perfect partner, along with our pure henna, to dye your hair in shades of brown to black. Indigo on its own is a blue/purple dye, so it must be used with pure henna. Because our indigo is a completely natural product, the dye strength can vary slightly from season to season, gently influenced by the climate and rainfall of each harvest.

It is also certified organic, Halal and proudly endorsed by both Beauty Without Cruelty and VeganSA.

Our indigo is a key ingredient in our ready-mixed hair dyes and can be mixed directly with our pure henna in different ratios to create your custom brown shades or used in the traditional two-step henna-indigo dye process (also known as ‘hendigo’), to achieve beautiful brown to black shades.

Beauty That Cares

Our Supporting Botanicals

Alongside our two star natural dyes, we offer a carefully curated collection of 100% pure, single-ingredient plant powders, and mixed botanical blends like our Get That Growth powder, specially formulated to help target hair and skin issues. These traditional Ayurvedic herbs and dried florals can be used on their own, mixed into custom hair masks, or blended for natural skincare treatments.

Some of our star botanicals are Bhringraj powder for hair growth, and Rose and Lotus flower powders for skincare.

Beautiful, vibrant hair colour without the harsh chemicals

Why Make the Switch to Natural Hair Colour?

Regular chemical hair dyes are a cocktail of ingredients that not only damage your hair and scalp but can also have terrible effects on your long-term health. All chemical hair dyes contain Para-dyes, the most well-known of these is PPD (Para-phenylenediamine), but others in this chemical group, like Para-aminophenol, are just as harmful. The darker the hair dye shade, the higher the concentration of these damaging Para-dyes it contains. In addition, most chemical dyes contain toxic additives like resorcinol (a known hormone disruptor), ammonia (a skin and lung irritant), and formaldehyde-releasing chemicals. These chemicals, along with Para-dyes, are recognised carcinogens.

What you gain in a quick-fix hair colour treatment can have serious, long-term health consequences. If you experience an allergic reaction to chemical hair dyes, it is your body's natural way of telling you that you should not be using them. Yet, even if you do not have an immediate allergic reaction, these harsh chemicals are still being absorbed and having a profoundly negative effect on your body. Typical allergic reactions range from a mild itching to rapidly escalating and life-threatening facial and airway swelling.

Many of our customers turned to Love My Hair after developing severe allergies to chemical hair dyes, and they are so incredibly relieved to now be safely using our 100% natural alternative.
