Uses
- Hair growth applications, restorative scalp blends, custom herbal shampoo infusions, skin toners, and herbal wellness teas.
Hair and scalp benefits
- Growth stimulation: Long celebrated as the “King of Hair” in traditional Ayurvedic care, it helps clear congested hair follicles and supports local blood circulation to encourage healthy growth. Phyto-compounds in bhringraj actively extend the growth phase of the hair follicles thus increasing hair growth and reducing hair fall.
- Follicle nourishment: Works directly on the roots to condition weakened hair strands, helping to reduce excessive shedding, thinning, and breakage.
- Scalp cooling and dandruff control: Possesses natural cooling properties that help soothe scalp irritation, help to manage dandruff flakes, and alleviate dryness.
- Natural shampoo synergist: Serves as an excellent active ingredient when infused into traditional, soapnut-based natural shampoos to cleanse while leaving hair roots nourished.
Skin and complexion benefits
- Collagen and anti-ageing support: Rich in unique phyto-compounds that help support natural collagen production, helping to smooth out fine lines and maintain skin elasticity.
- Blemish and tone regulation: May help to minimize visible skin blemishes, clarify the complexion, and promote an even, healthy skin tone.
- Soothes skin irritation: Contains natural anti-inflammatory properties that help calm skin redness, sooth sensitivity, and shield skin cells from environmental pollution.
Health and wellness notes
- Internal vitality: Dried bhringraj leaves can be steeped into a restorative herbal tea, traditionally used in Ayurvedic practices to support liver function, calm the mind, and boost overall well-being.
Product Precautions
- Dietary consultation: If you wish to ingest our dried bhringraj leaves for internal health benefits or herbal teas, please consult a registered dietician or healthcare professional beforehand.
For the best results, regular use of these dried leaves is recommended. You can use the leaves to craft your own fresh, authentic Ayurvedic remedies at home.
Important preparation and mixing guidelines
- Preserving purity: Always prepare and store your bhringraj extractions in clean, sterilized glass or ceramic containers. Avoid using reactive metal bowls or utensils to protect the active botanical nutrients.
- Maximising potency: Gently crumbling or crushing the dried leaves just before steeping or heating helps open up the plant fibers, allowing the active compounds to release completely.
- Clean and dry: We recommend rinsing the whole dried plant matter to remove all dust and drying it thoroughly. This can be done by rinsing in a sieve, spreading the damp plant matter on a baking sheet and heating it in a very low oven until completely dry.
The Ayurvedic infused hair & skin oil ritual
- The ingredients: Gather your dried bhringraj leaves and a clean, bone-dry glass jar. Choose a high-quality, cold-pressed plant oil suited to your type (such as grape seed, sweet almond, jojoba, argan, olive, black cumin, or coconut oil).
- The herbal boost: You can infuse bhringraj on its own, or you can blend it with our other whole dried herbs—shikakai pods, brahmi leaves, and amla fruit—to create a multi-purpose Ayurvedic hair growth oil.
- Method 1 (The warm double-boiler method): Place your dried plant material into the glass jar and submerge them fully in your chosen oil. Ensure your hands, jar, and utensils are completely dry to prevent water contamination. Place the open jar into a pot of water (a double boiler) and bring the water to a gentle boil. The water must boil, NOT the oil. Let the oil warm thoroughly for several hours; heating the herbs gently for longer yields a deeper, stronger infusion. Allow it to cool completely, then strain through a fine mesh or cheesecloth into a clean glass jar. Apply regularly to your skin, scalp, and hair roots.
- Method 2 (The solar fusion method): If you prefer a cold extraction, fill your jar with the herbs and oil, seal tightly, and place it on a warm, sunny windowsill. Leave it to infuse naturally for 4 to 6 weeks, shaking daily, before straining.
- Shelf-life hack: Stirring a few drops of pure Vitamin E oil into your strained, finished infusion acts as a natural antioxidant to prolong the shelf life of your custom oil. Using jojoba oil as your base also assists with shelf life, as jojoba oil is actually a type of plant wax and does not easily oxidise.
The antioxidant facial & scalp spritz and rinse
- The recipe: Place a spoonful of dried bhringraj leaves into a tea strainer or heat-safe flask. Pour fresh, boiling water over the leaves and allow it to steep undisturbed for 20 minutes until cool.
- The application: Strain the cooled, nutrient-rich tea into a clean spray bottle. Mist generously onto your clean face as a clarifying, blemish-reducing toner, or spray directly onto your scalp and hair as a leave-in growth-stimulating rinse. You can also pour the liquid into a jug to use as a strengthening final hair rinse.
- Storage: Keep your fresh spritz stored safely inside the fridge and use it within 2 weeks.
